The back yard was what people usually use it for … to store objects not often used and sometimes to keep rubble before deciding what to do about it … an area often neglected in favour of more visible areas like the front garden. But in the castle, this space also became the living space of many furry children, so it required frequent cleaning … and also led to more creative building. For example, what to do with the final mountain of building rubble? I designed an elevated barbeque area built on top of this rubble mountain, with a boma fire space in the middle and a garden section next to it. But the doggies also needed to see what is happening in the front garden, so that Ben had to manufacture a special platform for this purpose.
