Main facade
A gilded eagle (“New Life”) adorns the top of the baroque entrance. It has a 2 meter wingspan and portrays
new life: when their eggs hatch, black eagles line the nest with green twigs (: the sculpted eagle holding a
twig in its beak, about to land at the nest). There are a variety of baroque embellishments underneath the eagle. I either sculpted them especially for this purpose or adjusted others from original sculptures previously used to manufacture interior decorating trimmings. The eagle, the half moon outer frame of leaves, the name Jahwe (in Hebrew letters, immediately underneath the eagle), the symbols Alpha and Omega and the Cross of Constantine are gilded. Other embellishments, together with the background, pillars and inner front stoep, are painted in sandstone Cemwash.
