Stained glass mock windows and cornices
These typical castle windows are actually mock windows. This part of the castle houses the 14 large panels of The Way of the Cross, which I wanted to exhibit solely by means of modern gallery lighting. But as far as the outer facade of the building was concerned, I still wanted it to present as “breathing” through/with windows. Also from an aesthetic point of view these mock windows add a subtle balance. Stained glass windows usually do not show up much from the outside, so I included iridescent glass that reflects beautifully, especially early morning … and this adds to the magic of the polished granite paving in the front garden. The sconces underneath each mock window were created like all of my sculptures: original in clay, then rubber mould, then cast in whatever medium. These ones were cast in acrylic resin and painted with cement.
